It’s an interesting thing to reflect on a post title like that one… A year ago, something with a title like that would be full of complaining and bullshit and groaning and lots of gnashing of teeth.
But today… Was pretty awesome.
My friend Rodney is going to be doing some kind of something-or-another at Atlanta Comic Con this weekend. He and I were working on taking his inked comics and importing them into Illustrator for printing earlier this week and I convinced him to let me print them for him instead of the other person who wasn’t really inspiring a lot of faith in him. They could not have turned out better.

Look!
For the first time in a very long time, I attempted to print a new product, something I have never printed before, and had no issues whatsoever. This either means I’m getting gooooood at this whole printing thing or that the stars were just lining up so that my day could be beautiful and easy.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend and you don’t mind the type of basement-dwelling types that come out of the woodwork for comic book conventions, you should come check him out! I’m planning on taking my little nerd-child up there on Sunday afternoon so, if you’re going to be there, gimme a shout! I’ll autograph your boob or something.

(And I’m only marginally kidding about the basement-dwelling comment because, seriously, my son is TOTALLY going to be a comic nerd.) See exhibit A –>
I got him this moleskin a couple of weeks ago while we were walking the mall getting ideas for Christmas. It’s pretty cute. Perfect size for someone his size and instead of lined or unlined pages, there are all these little squares. This particular character is Funny Ant and you will see him in this comic. Heh. Or maybe not, because it appears that this human shoe haphazardly steps on the poor fella.
Then, after work, I sped down to Atlanta to have dinner with Hollis Gillespie before my class at her Shocking Real Life writing school. We met at Vickery’s and it… was… awesome! Fried chicken and collards and mac and cheese and sweet tea. Oh, what a fat ass I will ALWAYS have because comfort food like that just makes me feel so… so… comforted. Heh. It was also super fun to just hang with Hollis. We were supposed to sort of go over the details of the class and she was supposed to talk me down off the skyscraper of anxiety that I was on, but we ended up just shooting the shit… swapping stories about kids and life. It’s so funny how you can stumble across someone that you not only admire from a personal and professional standpoint but that you can also just really be yourself around. We’re so alike (our birthdays are only three days apart). Two scorpios? Y’all look out.
Then we scooted over to her classroom space in Castleberry Hills and got down to brass tacks. I think I had a little bit of a slow start (how in the WORLD do you start a class anyway? “Uhhh… Why don’t we go around and introduce ourselves or something.”) But once the class got moving, the questions starting rolling and I had SO much fun teaching all these awesome, eager people about setting up Facebook Fan Pages. I do so many of them now that I forget how intimidating it can be to create a web presence and I think I probably talked too fast, but we only had two hours! I think I’ll probably get a couple of consulting gigs from this which will be awesome, but the best part was, afterwards, one of the guys there said, “I really feel like I got my money’s worth.” That just made me beam. We’re already set up for another class in January and I cannot WAIT to see how much this class grows!
The drive home tonight was just incredible and I sat with my dad and we watched a couple of episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond (GOD, the writing in that show was seriously incredible) and then I curled into bed to write this post. There was a little tap on the door and my son appears, all sleepy eyed in matching plaid grampa pajamas. “I woke up and thought it was morning and then looked at my clock and thought, “I bet she’s home by now,” so I wanted to come check on you. How was your class?” Seriously? This kid is one of the coolest. Ever.
Now getting ready to drift off to sleep and feeling like… Connected. To myself, to my work, to people. It’s so funny how much a year can change things. I feel like, for the first time maybe ever, that I understand what living your life is supposed to be like… You do things, you’re present and in the moment and everything is just really beautiful. Like, things come together in such a way that makes you feel big and awesome but at the same time, like a tiny speck. Life just happens around you, right? I’m so super grateful for where I am right now.

Jami, you’re fucking awesome. I have to say, even though we determined that we don’t believe in luck, I’m a very lucky guy. I’ve met a woman who is intelligent, funny, sarcastic, witty, beautiful, strong, sexy, and well, quite the bitch when she wants to be. All the things I look for in a woman. But one of the most important things of all… You inspire me. Your dedication to yourself and your career, to your son and his incredible budding little mind, to your family and friends, all of these things about you inspire me… And I’m sure they inspire many other people as well. I’m super grateful to have met you… at a bar… wasted. “Where did you come from??”
You’re gonna make everybody sick! haha…
Aww, c’mon, it’s not that bad… Well maybe it is. But I don’t care.
:)
This makes my Christmas merry and bright!
AWWWWW!
