So, I uploaded a file to my printer’s website today for a client. Well, actually I uploaded six files for three jobs and only one of those jobs was giving me grief.

Initially, the file was too big. I had to fix the photographs included in the file and finally got that straightened out and then, when I uploaded, the Instant Online Proof showed this NEON LIME GREEN in all the places that it should have been Kelly Green.

So, I clicked on the little “We’re online!” Customer Service Icon and got connected with Steve B., a very helpful dude! I’m hoping I made his day.

Steve B.: Hi, how may I help you?

Jami: I am having trouble uploading a file. Every time I try, the colors are WAY off. A deep, kelly green is uploading as a lime green. I am not compressing the file and am uploading it as an .ai file. What am I doing wrong?

Steve B.: do it as Upload: Manual Proof 24 Hrs our processing dept will take a look at is and will send you a proof if it looks good you can approve the order is not then you will need to change the colors on the design software.

Jami: but it’s not the colors on my software

Jami: i can upload it elsewhere online

Jami: and the colors are consistent with what i see on my screen

Jami: it’s not an issue of a slight change, due to monitor settings, etc.

Steve B.: try uoloading it as a Upload: Manual Proof 24 Hrs and we will send you the proof and see if everything looks good

Jami: Ok. Is that going to be a different upload process? Or will this just delay my order until Monday at this point?

Steve B.: you will get a proof today

Jami: ok. but is the upload process different? something in the upload process is causing the issue.

Jami: i’m uploading three separate jobs today and this is the only one that is causing me grief.

Steve B.: when you upload it our processing dept takes a look at it and makes a proof of what you sent

Jami: is the proof that they send me any different than the proof that i see?

Jami: because i’d rather circumvent this issue if it’s going to be the same and they’re going to send me a lime green proof.

Steve B.: its different because someone is looking at the files before sending you a proof

Jami: ok, steve. i’m not sure if i’m being clear or if you’re just giving me stock answers.

Jami: lol

Jami: i don’t want to sit at the office today waiting on an email from you guys if it’s just going to mean you send me my proof and it looks GREAT but it’s lime green.

Jami: either i’m doing something wrong on my end or when i upload the file, something is going weird on your end.

Steve B.: there might be something wrong with the Instant Online Proof that is shifting the color

Jami: ok

Jami: that’s what i needed to hear.

Jami: i’m going to trust you steve.

Jami: don’t ruin my weekend! :)

Jami: i’m trying to GET OUT OF HERE

Jami: lol

Steve B.: lol it should be okay when you upload the files to the 24hour proof

Jami: beautiful!

Jami: if this shows up in email as a lime green proof, i’m totally finding another guy named steve at the bar tonight and i’m socking him in the neck.

Steve B.: lol

Jami: maybe it’ll be you. maybe not.

Jami: but i’ll feel better.

Steve B.: if its comes out as lime green give us a call so we can cancel it

Jami: ok

Steve B.: and at that point, if it doesn’t work then its the files you are sending in

Jami: ok

Jami: then i’ll punch some girl named jami in the throat

Steve B.: so you should get a proof via email

Steve B.: Is there anything else that you would like me to help you with today?

Jami: no, steve. i think we’re good.

Jami: if it’s the right green, i’ll drink a shot for you.

Jami: thanks!

Jami: this is so totally going on my blog.

God I love it when you get to deal with a real human being on the other end instead of an automated system. I mean, he was giving me scripted answers at first, but once he saw how DOWN AND REAL I was, he loosened his neck tie a bit.
